We know the feeling.

It's pouring outside, and somewhere in the back of your mind you're wondering: is water getting into the basement right now? We know that feeling because we're homeowners too.

Jordan Baker started Baker Construction Co. to give homeowners peace of mind. When the job is done right, you have one less thing to worry about when the rain starts coming down.

That's why we check the gutters, the downspouts, and where the water ends up before we recommend a repair or replacement.

Water doesn't stay at the roofline.

  • Illustration: a downspout empties beside the foundation, and the water soaks down through the soil and seeps into the basement
    01

    Your basement.

Water spilling over a gutter or emptying beside the foundation can find its way downstairs. You shouldn't have to check the basement after every hard rain.

  • Front steps and concrete walkway beside a downspout at a home's porch
    02

    Your safety.

Water spilling from a gutter onto your front steps or walkway can freeze when temperatures drop. That turns a drainage problem at the roof into a safety problem at your front door.

  • Gutter and downspout above a flower bed of red and pink blooms

    Your landscaping.

You put down fresh mulch, then the next storm washes it out. Overflowing gutters can turn your beautiful landscaping into a headache. We'll check whether a gutter is overflowing or a downspout is emptying into the bed.

Not sure what you need?

Repair it, or replace it?

One leaking corner doesn't mean you need all new gutters. It might just need a repair.

Sagging sections or damage in several places may call for replacement. If water keeps spilling over, we'll find out why before recommending a repair or new gutters.

You don't have to know which one you need. Tell us what you've noticed, and we'll come look at the whole thing. If a repair will do it, we'll say so.

Brown gutter, box-style head, and downspout at the corner of a stone house

Made for your house.

A few things we pay attention to so you don't have to.

Gutters off a store shelf come in 10-foot sections that get seamed together, and every seam is a place water can find its way out.

We custom fabricate each gutter on site to fit your house perfectly. Whether it's a 10-foot run or an 80-foot run, we can do it all in one piece.

No seams along the run mean fewer places for water to escape.

K-style

  • 5-inch
  • 6-inch

Most houses have K-style gutters, probably yours too. The front looks like crown molding, and the bends stiffen it so it holds its shape.

Half-round

  • 6-inch only
  • An architectural choice

Half-round gutters are an architectural choice, not a performance upgrade. They're popular on historic homes, lake houses, cottages, and Cape Cods, where the rounded profile fits the character of the house.

Copper

  • By request
  • An architectural choice

Copper is for houses where the gutters are part of the architecture. It costs three to four times what aluminum does, and on the right house it's worth it. It lasts, too: we've torn off copper gutters that were a hundred years old.

Sized to the roof above it.

Whether you need 5-inch or 6-inch gutters comes down to how much roof drains into each section. Figuring that out is our job, not yours.

Our rule of thumb: almost every house needs bigger downspouts than the standard 2x3. We usually recommend 3x4s.

A 3x4 has about twice the opening of a 2x3. We consider it the single biggest upgrade you can make to how your gutter system performs.

Old gutters can look fine from the driveway.

Some of the gutters we replace are 30 to 40 years old. Up close, the runs may be sagging or the fasteners loose.

We've pulled old fasteners out of brackets by hand. If your gutters are that age, we'll check what's holding them up, not just the metal you can see.

Tired of cleaning out your gutters?

We install gutter guards on both new and existing gutters. If leaves and debris are a constant problem, mention it when you send your details and we'll take a look at that too.

MaterialAluminum or copper

We use .032-gauge aluminum in 20 colors, or 20-ounce copper by request.

The aluminum is thicker than what was commonly installed 30 or 40 years ago, so it holds its shape better over time. The baked-on factory finish also comes with the manufacturer's 25-year limited warranty against fading.

Downspouts2x3, 3x4, 4x5, or round

2x3 is the standard size. A 3x4 has about twice the opening. For larger roof areas, or when the architecture calls for it, we can step up to 4x5 or round downspouts.

Soffit & fasciaSolid or vented

Fascia is the board your gutters attach to. Soffit is the underside of the roof overhang.

We replace both in aluminum, with solid or vented options. So if the gutters are coming off and the fascia or soffit is showing its age too, we can take care of it at the same time.

What affects gutter cost?

Mostly the size of the job: how much roofline you have, how many corners it turns, and how many downspouts are needed to move the water away.

Material matters too, along with how easy the gutters are to reach and what condition the existing system is in.

That's why we come out and look at the house before we price the job. You'll get a quote based on what your home actually needs.
